Tui Na

Tui Na is a distinctly dynamic and versatile modality of bodywork. It is believed to be the oldest known massage system in the world, and practitioners of tui na were traditionally treated with the same respect as herbalists and acupuncturists. The name tui na refers to the basic techniques practitioners use: "push" (tui) and "pull" (na).

Tui Na uses the traditional Chinese medical theory of meridians or pathways, the five elements and the flow of Qi (energy) as its basis. In tui na massage, the muscles and tendons are massaged with the help of hands, and an acupressure technique is applied directly to affect the flow of Qi at different acupressure points of the body, thus facilitating the healing process.

Many of the techniques used in this massage resemble Western massage like gliding, kneading, vibration, tapping, friction, pulling, rolling, pressing and shaking. Tui Na can offer all the benefits of traditional Western massage while simultaneously addressing and mitigating specific health issues. Tui Na can be used on most parts of the body and is usually given through light clothing.
